Disappointing

I wanted to love this mascara since it's cruelty- and paraben-free, but the odd-shaped brush makes it hard to use, and it has a vaguely unpleasant scent.

Improved Formula

Years back, I'd bought BWC's regular mascara (not waterproof) and was not impressed by its performance. Shade and brush were perfect but it would smudge like no other. After purchasing this waterproof version, I think this company has been listening to its consumers, because this one is a major improvement. I have sensitive eyes and I wear contacts and unlike other organic brands, BWC's does not irritate my eyes' area. The hourglass brush is soft. Shade is a nice brown, and most importantly BWC is one of the original companies that became Leaping Bunny certified, meaning no animal testing on the part of the company and those it contracts with. This formula won't give you crazy volume or length. It gives you a natural look and feel and you won't lose your lashes while attempting to remove it. Trust me, this recently happened to me with a drugstore brand. Lesson learned. This one is now "up there" with 100% Pure's Pigmented Mascara.

I wanted to love it...

But unfortunately it didn't quite work out for me. I have sensitive eyes and bad allergies - thus my need for a water-proof mascara for everyday use. When my allergies get irritated and my eyes start watering, this mascara starts smudging. Instead of being waterproof and staying put, this mascara runs into my eyes, burning and irritating them more - which just complicates matters. Though not quite as badly as non water-proof mascara would. I can't really recommend this mascara for those in need of water-proof make-up, but if you don't need it to be water-proof it's great.

This works fine, looks good, and you won't feel guilty using it

Give this a try if you're looking for makeup that won't make you feel guilty. I'm trying to switch to Cruelty Free products as much as I can, and this was an easy switch since I wasn't committed to anything in particular at the store anyway. I thought it would be hard to find good makeup that was Cruelty Free, but it's not when it's available on Amazon with Free Super Saver Shipping and doesn't even really cost much more than you'd pay at a drug store anyway. This isn't going to give you huge volume, but I don't like big clumpy mascara anyway. I don't wear a lot of makeup, and this was just what I was looking for--light and easy to wear. It works fine, looks good, and I feel good using it!

Good mascara, Hate the new hourglass brush

I've been using this mascara for many years, so I was surprised that it showed up with a new brush. My first one was dried up. I ordered again and it was fine. I really dislike the awkward brush. I loved the previous one. The formula is still good though.

natural looking

I bought Beauty without Cruelty mascara because I no longer want makeup that's tested on animals. This product doesn't clump much while you're putting it on and leaves your lashes looking more "natural" and less like you're wearing mascara. It's supposed to be waterproof but if your lashes get wet, it smudges like crazy. I will probably be looking for a different cruelty free mascara.

Works well but not an all-day mascara.

This product goes on very lightly and wears off as the day goes on. It doesn't run but I do notice a very light raccoon-eye by the end of the day. A pretty good product if you're looking for a daily mascara that doesn't go on heavy and has less chemicals than other brands.

Beauty without Cruelty Mascara

I don't believe the mascara was sealed, but I had run out of mascara and needed to use it. I later bought a second mascara at CVS (full of bad chemicals I know) but the BWC mascara really is very minimal. It does not run, and it is waterproof. If you like a very natural look, this is an OK choice for you. If you are used to a product that coats and emphasizes your lashes, looks elsewhere. The product took quite some time to ship. I really like BWC so other products may be better.

Creates natural clump-free, natural, smudge proof lashes

I am very light skinned, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and hardly any eyebrow, (that's another story). If I don't wear mascara, I look ill! But I like my make up to look natural. Using black mascaras with my light skin tone looks too heavy. So I bought this and am very happy. It goes on smoothly without clumping or smearing. It lasted all day without any smears. I just love this mascara it really brings out the blue in my eyes and gives me definition without looking made up. The wand is shaped so that I can apply the mascara to the inner corner of the eye too. Removal is easy also. It really lifted my spirits to find this mascara. I highly recommend it. Great colour for blondes or redheads. Highly recommend.

Good cocoa mascara, great for blondes looking for natural look.

I can see the brand cares about plastic but this does need some sort of seal because I can’t tell if it’s been used, trialed, opened etc. especially as it seems quite empty and dry when first opened. However this cocoa mascara gave me a very natural look which is exactly what I was looking for as a blonde that doesn’t wear any other make up. I love the brush, it’s an extremely even coverage, it’s thin and lighter coloured than other browns I’ve tried. Love that it’s waterproof, this is the only vegan brown one I could find. Perfect for me however it’s very costly so 3 stars incl. packaging faults. **update** seems to crumble as the day goes on and I think it’s already running out. Another star removed.

Nothing magical but a great everyday mascara

If you don't want a false lash style mascara but just want a bit more colour and length to your lashes I really recommend this mascara. I don't think it knocks anything out of the park but as an everyday mascara it's pretty damn good. I'm yet to find a mascara that doesn't flake a bit on me but this is very minor and pretty unnoticeable. I'll buy this again when it runs out

Not very effective

Sadly, I found this mascara to be a rather weak product. It merely coats the lashes but otherwise leaves them as they are - no increase in length or volume. You'd get the same results with an eyelash dye kit , and the results would last a lot longer.

Not waterproof

Nice dark brown and easily applied. Does not clog and makes lashes look longer (does not curl). However, it is not in the least waterproof or even smudgeproof. They need to reassess the formula. Regrettably, for this reason alone. I would not buy again.
