Where has this been all my life?

Im glad that I did not let the negative reviews deter me from buying this. I was debating on whether to buy this or the electronic portable can opener and opted for this one due to money constraints and not wanting to deal with the hassle of changing the battery. Im happy I did! Opens cans so smoothly and I have yet to experience the metal shavings as the other users and feel like the metal shavings have more to do with the quality...well lack-there-of the can rather than the can opener producing it. Glad I purchased and now I can continue buying the can version of items that are cheaper than the plastic-sealed ones in peace.

Didn't Know What I Was Missing All This Time

I saw a random video about "safe cut"(or "safety") can openers and comparing them to the traditional can openers that are more known and popular. I was skeptical because it made no sense why something that performed like that wouldn't be the known and popular style of can opener. But I was intrigued enough to try one out and was very happy to see a AmazonBasics option. AmazonBasics proves to be worth the savings more often than not compared to their counterparts. I was happy to take a roll on it. The video was no gimmick, these things are amazing. No more lining up wheels, grip crushing levers, and clunky grinding cranking. No more sharp edges or lids falling into what you want to eat. The clean cut is amazing. Put it in place and start spinning, it grabs and does the job. The lid doesn't fall in. And there's no sharp edges. It's baffling that these aren't the "known" can opener. These are what you should think of when somebody says can opener, not the ones you do. This AmazonBasics Safe Cut Can Opener is built well and I expect it to last for many, many years. MAYBE it can't tackle every can. But I've yet to run into one I can't open with it. Couple that with the ever growing prevalence of manual pull tab cans and my traditional can opener hasn't been touched since I got this a year ago. And hopefully never will. I'm a convert. Safe cut is the right cut!

Easy to operate.

I had an old can opener that was a disaster but this one is light weight with a sharp opener that easily turns and holds the can in place.

Bought for someone who needed this tool

My daughter's significant other opened his thumb and webbing between it and finger from the traditional opener can. This immediately came to my attention as I have one so with expediency I ordered another.

I thought it didn't work... Then I moved the can and the lid fell off... love this thing, with five dogs who like wet dog food with their kibble this is great as every can has its own lid now!

Great can opener.

I love the can opener but I have one suggestion: Some instructions should be included. It took me a while to figure out how to use it.

Great quality!

I needed a replacement ASAP and ordered this one without thinking it too much. Once I actually used it I realized I was struggling so much before! This one is super smooth to twist and very good quality! 10/10

Works just as advertised. So much better than a standard can opener since it doesn't leave any sharp edges (cuts below the lid line). So glad I purchased it!

This should be the standard tin opener.

Saw this type of tin opener on a YouTube video (yes, I know... I'm a bit weird like that) and when I saw amazon basics had one, thought why not, I need a new tin opener anyway. This tin opener is life changing (as much as a tin opener can change your life, which isn't a great amount but still). No sharp edges on tins, no having to reset the opener after it doesn't grab onto the tin properly, and probably the biggest benefit, the removed top can be used as a lid! No more plastic wrap or tin foil to cover open tins! Would recommend.

Works well but looks a bit chunky

The AmazonBasics can opener I received has chunky soft grip handles that make it easy to lock onto tin lids. The rotary cutter is sharp and sliced through the tin easily. It works well as you would expect from this design of can opener. The handle has a hole in the top should you wish to hang your kitchen utensils. There is also a handy bottle opener incorporated into the design. Authentically it is nothing spectacular so I am giving it 4 stars rather than 5.

Good for weaker grip - Easy to use - Safe

This is a really straightforward tin opener that can be used to open either by removing the centre lid or using on the horizontal to cut away the lid entirely. It is very easy to use and doesn’t require much pressure to latch initially my partner struggled with a cheaper plastic folding tin opener that we had yet could immediately use this and felt quite comfortable with it. it’s very easy to wash it and keep it hygienic either by hand or in the dish washer.

Finally a can opener that hasn’t broken on me!

I had my doubts after having so many can openers break on me but this is really sturdy and easy to use! Very surprised! I thought I was cursed but I guess I just never found a decent can opener. It’s got good grip and the quality is decent but it works and that’s the main thing! Very happy, I recommend!

Good quality

As the name states this is quite a basic can opener in terms of its functionality and purpose. It is quite light but feels strong and durable. The handle grips the can well and smoothly cuts the circumference of cylindrical cans such as soup or canned vegetables. The handle is made of soft rubber-coated and oversized turning knob for ease of use and non-slip grip. I’ve used similar types of this and they have always stopped somewhere in the middle. This cuts all the way through with ease. Cleaning the can opener is very easy so no issue there. Overall very happy with this.
