Works great, but plastic has degraded over the years

Had this for almost 7 years now and it has always worked well. I've had no struggles getting any cork out, and it has never broken a cork. So why not 5 stars? As it has aged the plastic has gotten sticky. It's clean, yet feels dirty and I have to wash my hands after using it. It's been worth the price, but I'm moving on.

Purchased this opener as a result of the test done by Cooks' Illustrated. Am not disappointed. It is easy and effective to use. Whereas the Rabbit positions your muscles awkwardly for the cork removal effort, this opener is designed to have you grasping the neck of the bottle firmly with one hand and the other can then much more easily use the single lever to remove the cork. The only, very slight, issue seems to be that it does not quite remove the cork entirely from the bottle. Maybe I just need more practice? Right! Let's open another!

nice opener

This is an innovative opener that functions well ... except that one of the most critical parts (which keeps the smaller handle attached) is made of plastic composite. It can break easily, rendering the opener useless. UPDATE: Although past the seller warranty, the manufacturer told me there had been a batch of products and sent me a replacement with no hassle whatsoever. I expect this one to work well.

Great but rubber breaks down in a year or so.

I have had this for a while now and the rubber grip i think is breaking down and is starting to get really sticky. Gross.. However this thing works great. I just have to wash my hands after I use it ;-/

Great opener

I don't write many reviews, but I was so impressed with this product I felt I just had to. I previously had an expensive well known brand opener that I liked OK but it was hard to use, and not easy to remove the cork after it was pulled. After many years of putting up with it, it failed. I figured I would try this opener because the reviews were good and it was reasonably priced. Boy was I surprised when I started using it. This opener is great! It is much better than my old one and I wish the old one had failed sooner. This opener is extremely easy to use with very little effort. What a clever design and it works. I highly recommend this product.

Description is inaccurate

I just received this item and have a real concern about it’s durability. The description says it is made of stainless steel and plastic. The only part made of steel is the rod that drives the corkscrew. The gear and cog parts are chromed metal. Probably what is called “pot metal”. The engagement of the cog and gear is not very tight. The remaining parts are plastic. Basically this cork puller is no different than any of the many others that cost half the price. It will eventually break. Probably the plastic segment that clasps the bottle or the gear to cog engagement. I’ll keep it but I’m not expecting it to last longer than any other unit.

Every friend who tries it wants one.

After finding this recommended on another site, I picked one up to replace my worn-out and not-as-good-as-it-used-to-be Rabbit. Immediately, I found it to be MUCH easier to use - far less effort, a far more natural alignment, and far greater bottle stability on the counter. No regrets whatsoever in changing from the rabbit. Plus, it kicks the cork off just as easily. Others have noted that longer corks don't extract fully - this is correct, but it's such an inconsequential "negative" that I'd barely knock a half star off my rating over it. And, the true kicker - I've had at least half a dozen friends ask me what it's called after using it, so they can get their own.

Smooth and effective

This opener blew me away. After the handle broke on a previous purchase of similar style product we were in dire straights for a wine opener, so I searched and picked with little notice of the product. So pleased with the result. If you want a compact, smooth and effective opener, this is it. Blew away all others I've tried. Easiest opener yet!
