Great Hamburger Press
I purchased two of these over two years ago to use in my wifes restaurant. After one was stolen I purchased one more. These are great units and easy to clean. We have pressed over 120 pounds of hamburgers each week with just one of these and the second one we purchased is just a spare. THEY DO DISASSEMBLE! I noticed in a previous review that these does not disassemble so I want to tell you how easy it is. First you just loosen the lock nut that screws against the top to keep the platefrom moving. 2nd turn the knob on top clockwise until the adjustment plate inside moves down a little (this process will not be necessary if you are not making maximum size burgers with the plate against the top all of the time like we do). 3rd hold the unit in one hand with your fingers on the plate inside the unit and your thumb on top of the unit to keep the plate from rotating. 4th unscrew the knob on top, 5th now you can unscrew and remove the locknut knob. 5th give the threaded shaft that you just removed the lock nut and knob from a spin clockwise and the plate will spin out of the bottom. I hope these directions do not sound complicated but after you do it once it is as easy as falling off of a turnip truck and only takes about 30 seconds. It washes up in short order and everyting is clean. The first time we used it we put some bleach in the water and soaked it. This discolored the unit and it is really not necessary. We use plastic wrap on the top and bottom of the meat before we press it and the hamburger never comes in contact with the press. For the 1st two or three burgers it is a pain because of the static of the plastic wrap. It wants to cling to everything but this goes away quickly and two sheets of plastic wrap (one for the bottom and one to cover the meat) is enough to press all of our hamburgers with out changing. I was surprised at this but the stuff is tougher than I expected. We use the unit at the maximum setting and we also use a gray commerical measuring scoop which gives us a perfect 4 1/4 oz hamburger everytime. Sorry but I cannot remember the number of the scoop but they are all color coded with the same colors. We have one person scooping and one person pressing and putting them in a plastic box . Tips; (1)If you freeze the burgers, put two sheets of plastic between the layers because the hamburgers will freeze to the plastic and it is a real pain if you don't. (2) When you put the scoop of meat on the press, put it a little behind center because, as you can see, the lid does not come straight down, it has a hinge. If you put the meat directly in the center it will not fill the back half all the way. If you want to make smaller hamburgers, and we don't, you can use a smaller scoop and you will have to play with it a little but it is not a big deal. The unit we are using looks as good, except for the bleach experiment, and functions as well as it did when we first took it out of the box. If you want to make hamburgers 4 1/4 oz or less this is a tough unit that will probably last the average user a lifetime. It may last my lifetime under heavy use. If you buy this one, I think you will be happy with it.

Metal and sturdy
I like this gadget for pressing burgers as I buy ground beef in bulk from the butcher market. It's not cheap plastic that feels like it'll break if you give it a good press. There is an adjustment knob that let's you set the thickness. Now, this is something all burger presses seem to have in common: They press from back to front, which is not the same as from top down. Think about it a second and realize the meat is being squeezed from back to front, not squished from top to bottom, which would be ideal. It does have a few bits and pieces to clean by hand (I would not dishwasher them, but maybe you could). I freezer pack my burgers with a food saver so I need to use TWO papers between each patty or they will stick together once frozen and won't come apart easily. And yes, get the disc papers - totally worth it.

Everything I expected
We have multiple uses for this hamburger Patty maker. Very satisfied with it.

I found it very difficult to use and clean
I'm sure it has it's virtues and that many people probably like it. But, It is far from intuitive regarding its use and and I found it unwieldy regarding the handling of it at the preparation counter. It is not as well made as one would want. Its adjustability is rather poor in that you can make it seem to create McDonnell thick burgers (but it was very difficult to remove such a paper thin piece of meat) or a is only adjustable from "Paper Thin" setting (where the plates literally touch each other), up to about 6mm (roughly 1/4") or an approximately 3/8 of an inch at the thickest setting. To market this as an "adjustable" burger press is misleading, as it would be nearly impossible to make a burger with anything other than the thickest setting. I do not think it is accurate to call this and adjustable burger press, as you can really only product 3/8 inch burgers whether you like that size of not. I really couldn't get it to produce thicknesses in between those two levels. As for one of the significant issues I found is that it appears to be next to impossible to thoroughly clear the device. Meat gets in behind the press plate and there is no way to remove that section of the press. So you have to hope that hard water and soap cleaning has removed any meat residue. Well, I am not risking that! Put it in the dishwasher you say? Well, I tried that (don't know if it is dishwater compatible or not but I had no other cleaning option). The device can out of the dishwasher looking a dark powdery gray with what appeared alight powder on the surface. Clearly something negative happened to the device, so in the trash it went. I have since purchased the Cuisinart CSBP-100 3-in-1 Stuffed Burger Press and have made excellently formed burgers, with easy dishwasher cleanup. Made of plastic, it appears to be durable, very easy to use and comes with a "slider" burger maker as well. For under $11 and free delivery, I knew I couldn't go wrong.

Very easy to clean perfect size burgers
Easy to take apart and clean. Unscrew the top knob, the locking ring screws off next. Then simply unscrew the round platen in the top head of the press. clean with hot soapy water and reassembly Easy peasy. Not once so far as the burgers jammed up in the unit. We like our burgers thin. Adjusting the press to it's highest point seems to be the perfect setting for us. Others may like their burgers twice as thick. You could just take the platen completely out and fill the top with aluminum foil I guess to get that thick burger. If not I'd advise finding another burger press. We mounted ours to an old pizza cutting board. 12 x 12 piece. The press has two mounting holes. Works a treat.

Quality made, but does not work well
Advertised as American made. But not. It's doesn't compress the patties enough you are better off making them by hand.

Works as well as the more expensive models
I weigh out 4 oz balls of burger, then put them into plastic sandwich size zip bags before pressing them into patties. Keep them in the freezer. It's easy to remove the patties from the bags - they rip apart easily. You can also use wax paper or plastic wrap. You can wash the press in the dishwasher if you don't care about it getting darker in color.
