My instructions were garbage. See below…
If your instructions don’t work, it’s not you, it’s the wrong instructions and they’ll NEVER WORK. I worked on this simple lock for HOURS with no avail!!!! One of the reviews used instructions from Kwikset but lacked the part for deleting the factory programming code. Here’s the FULL INSTRUCTIONS: here’s how to run the door handing identification process on your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt: On the keypad, enter the preset Programming Code (0000). Next, press the Unlock / Lock button. Press 0, then press the Unlock / Lock button. You’ll hear the motor of the lock run, then stop after a few seconds, indicating the door handing identification process is complete. So that’s all you need to do to teach the lock the orientation of your door (door handing identification). How to Change the Default/Existing Programming Code on Your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt? So after performing the door handing identification, the next thing you want to do is change the default Programming Code. As you probably know, this lock comes with a 4-digit default Programming Code (0000), and you’ll need to change the default code to ensure security. To change the default/existing Programming Code on your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt, follow the steps below: Enter the default Programming Code (0000) and press the Unlock / Lock button. If you’ve previously changed the Programming Code, enter your current Programming Code and press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 4, and then press the Unlock / Lock button. Enter a new Programming Code (4 digits), then press the Unlock / Lock button. If the lock flashes green twice and beeps twice, it means the operation is successful. So the new Programming Code is now in effect, and you can use it to program other functions in the lock. Deleting the Default User Code Like the default Programming Code, the lock also comes with a default User Code (1234). Note that Programming Code differs from User Code. Programming Code is used to put the lock in programming mode, while the User Code is used to unlock the lock via the keypad. So you’ll need to delete the default User Code to prevent unauthorized access to your home. Here is how to delete the default User Code on your AmazonBasics Electronic Lock: Enter your Programming Code and then press the Unlock / Lock button. Press 2, then press the Unlock / Lock button. Enter the default User Code to be deleted (1234) and press the Unlock / Lock button. This will delete the default User Code. Note: You can use this method to delete any existing User Code on your lock, including the ones you created. You’ll only need to enter the code you want to delete in the last step—as you can see above. More so, you can delete all existing User Codes in your lock at once. Here’s how to do that: Enter your current Programming Code and press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 3, and then press the Unlock / Lock button to complete the process. The lock will flash green twice, followed by two beeps, showing that all existing User Codes have been deleted. How to Add New User Codes on Your AmazonBasics Electronic Keypad Deadbolt? After deleting the default User Code, the next thing you want to do is create new User Codes. Note that you need to create User Codes to be able to unlock the lock via the keypad. So here’s how to add a new User Code: Enter your Programming Code and press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 1, and press the Unlock / Lock button. Enter a new User Code (4 to 10-digit number) and press the Unlock / Lock button. The lock will flash green twice, followed by two beeps, showing that the new User Code is now in effect. Repeat the steps to add more User Codes. Note that the lock allows you to store only 10 User Codes at a time. If you’ve added up to 10 codes, you’ll need to delete one to add a new code. How to Disable/Enable All User Codes on Your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt? If you don’t want anyone you shared User Codes with to unlock the lock, you can simply disable all the User Codes. That is, the lock can’t be unlocked with a User Code during this time. To disable all User Codes on your lock, follow the steps below: Enter your Programming Code and then press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 8, then press the Unlock / Lock button. To enable all User Codes, repeat the steps above. How to Create a One-time User Code on Your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt? A one-time User Code is used just once. That is, the code expires once it is used to unlock the lock. You can create a one-time User Code for a serviceman or any guest you just want to give one-time access to your home. That said, here’s how to create a one-time User Code: Enter your current Programming Code and press the Unlock / Unlock button. Press key 9, then press the Unlock / Lock button. Enter a one-time User Code (4 to 10 digits), then press the Unlock / Lock button. Enabling/Disabling Auto-Lock This AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt comes with the auto-lock feature that automatically locks the lock after a few seconds (when the door closes). However, this feature is disabled by default, and you need to enable it to get it working. Here’s how to enable auto-lock on your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt: Enter your current Programming Code and press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 5, then press the Unlock / Lock button. This will enable auto-lock in your lock. So the lock will lock automatically after 30 seconds of closing the door. To disable auto-lock, repeat the steps above. And if 30 seconds delay time is not okay for you, you can set it to your preferred delay time. Here’s how to do that: Enter your Programming Code and press the Unlock / Lock button. Press key 6, and then press the Unlock / Lock button. Enter delay time (10-99 seconds) and press the Unlock / Lock button. How to Factory Reset Your AmazonBasics Electronic Deadbolt? If you have some little issues with your lock, such as lost/forgotten Programming Code, you can reset the lock and then use the default Programming Code to reprogram it. Note that this action will permanently delete all your custom settings, meaning you have to start all over again to program the lock. That said, here’s to factory reset your AmazonBasics Electronic Keypad Deadbolt: Remove the battery cover to find the Reset button (a round button labeled “R”). Next, press and hold the button (for about 6 seconds) until you hear three beeps. The three long beeps show that the reset is successful. Next, perform the door handing identification to ensure optimal operation (see how to perform door handing identification above). You’re welcome. ;)

Love it!
This is easy to install, only had to drill two more small holes for the mounting plate. Instructions in many languages with good figures. I had a little trouble resetting the user code, but once it finally sank in that there was a separate default for the user code (as opposed to the programming code) I was in like flint. There is one instruction though that may be important… the door must be open and unlocked to change the codes, and you have to do the “orientation check” before setting it up. But I love it and will never lock myself out again. (Having a combo lock came in very handy when I broke my ankle and had to call a friend to help me because I couldn’t get upstairs to open the door. She never would have been able to get in quickly if we’d had to call a locksmith.)

Works about 90% of the time great, but then no auto lock
I bought this due to the great reviews other customers give the lock and because it has an auto-lock feature. It does need programming, so be prepared to slog through the various digits. When it works, it works great. I just wish it would work 100% of the time. I'd say it automatically locks 6-7 times no problem, but then the 8th time, it doesn't auto-lock. This is troubling since the kids never remember to lock the door. So if you don't mind that it doesn't function 100% of the time, then this lock is for you.

Great value
We ended up buying 2 of these for the back yard. It is not super fancy like some of the smart locks or finger print locks that are on the market. These are a good alternative if you don't want to break the bank. They keep our house secure & no need to carry keys around with you all the time. Our house had 4 different sets of keys. We ended up replacing them all with keypads & smart locks.

Great lock with lots of options, But must push Lock button after entering code
Pros: It works great and has loots of options for codes. We use some that have 4 digits and some that have 6 digits. Installation was pretty easy Looks nice Cons: Must push the Lock button after entering the unlock codes Has one visible external mounting screw at the top of the inside of the door, could be nicer

Omg finally figured out
Ok, so yes took a minute to figure out how to use. Got caught up on the verbiage. Thought program code was all I needed. Program code is to program it not to unlock it. Try out the user code they give you before setting your own user code. Once you know it works, delete all user codes and then set your user code. The programing code is good to have so that not anyone can change user codes. Wow, you guys will get it once you understand program code and user code are different and cannot be the same. Other then being dumb dumb (me), all works good. Goodbye keys and goodbye being locked out.

Do not over tighten
Looks nice and was somewhat easy to install. However, if you have issues with it not working once installed loosen the screws. After I loosened the screws about 2 turns everything works fine now. As others have said the directions are a bit confusing but overall it's a dead bolt.... not rocket science.

Really simple and great!
This lock is great! I was hesitant to buy it after reading several negative reviews on here about this lock being hard to install and program, as well as the instructions being wrong. I didn't find any of that to be true. I purchased a used, like new lock. It looks brand new and had all of the parts. I've never installed a digital lock before but this was a breeze. It fit my existing deadbolt and took all of 25 minutes to install and program. Just read the book and follow the directions precisely. I just received and installed today, so I'm not sure how long the batteries will last. I'll update my review if any problems arise.

Decent Lock
Decent keypad lock. Not top quality, but at this price I’m impressed. Easy to install…just follow the included instructions and it’s pretty straightforward. I had zero issues getting mine installed and working well!

Great lock
Our old numeric lock went dead - left batteries to leak and no cleaning could revive it. Bought this item to replace it. The price is great. The install was easy when all instructions are properly followed (don't ask). A master code is created, replacing the default code. Then several user codes can be set. * DO delete the default user code * It's in the guide! No expert on such locks. However, it seems to do the trick for a lot less than the big names in locks at a much lower cost. A great buy, especially when you can get away with replacing only the numerical deadbolt.

Poor quality plastic innards.... Welcome to the 21st century!
Update Feb 27/21 - down to 1 star. The internal gear mechanism jumped a tooth again. You can manually lock and unlock, but the powered internal mechanism will not work due to the gears being out of alignment. Will be lodging a complaint / return claim with Amazon as soon as I am done writing this update. Update February 2021 - removing one star as the inner working gears some jumped a tooth (or something) causing the deadbolt to not retract/extend properly. Had to disassemble and re-align the gears. It is not difficult now that I know how it is done, but the initial troubleshooting and repair took over an hour. On a related note, all of the internal gears are plastic. Not sure how they will withstand the test of time. I would have preferred metal gears and their proven superior reliability and lifespan. Bought this as a replacement for our 15 year old Taymor deadbolt, which seemed to not be engaging properly in its inner workings anymore. I was also keen to get something that would allow us to lock and unlock the door without having to fumble around with a key. This unit arrived quick. Had the same finish as our original lock set, and was easy to install. I was *almost* able to re-use the original key cylinder (and therefore keep using same key), but the flat metal "axle" (probably not what it is called) was about a quarter inch too short, so I had to use the key cylinder that came with the unit (loses one star on the thickness subcategory as a result). Programming was easy. I really really love the one-press door lock button. I have not activated the automatic timed door lock feature, but it is nice to know that it has that feature. As far as security, the new deadbolt seemed as thick and durable as the deadbolt it replaced, so that is essentially a wash. The only unknowns are battery life (i have read mixed reviews), and longevity of the electronics / physical mechanisms/ etc. If I can get a full year's operation between battery changes, and 15 years or more out of the device as a whole, I will be pleased.

Amazon Basics Traditional Electronic Keypad Deadbolt Door Lock
Easy installation, took about 15 minutes to remove old deadbolt and install this one. It was a perfect fit. Instructions for the install and programming were straight forward. This lock does not come with batteries, you will need 4 AA batteries. The installation/user manuals are on the product page so you can download the pdf 's which I like to keep on my computer for easy reference down the road as I can never find the booklets later
