Fixed the problem
This leash broke just 2 days after the 30 day window! Ugh! The retraction feature kept getting jammed and it wouldn’t ‘reel in’ consistently. So frustrating, because this is kind of pricey. Plus, it’s pretty heavy. I was kind of getting used to it though after using it a few times. Anyway, Amazon wouldn’t replace and I was told to contact the mfg., which I did. It took a bit before the company responded, but they’re sending out a replacement. So I’m happy now! Kong products are usually good, so I guess I just got a bad one. Here’s hoping the new one doesn’t have the same issues. I was told the mfg has a 2 year warranty.

Best retractable leash
Small but durable Very fast retractable lead
Scritto da: Absolutely the BEST for large dogs. King is the only leash that lasts for our dog; up to 2 years vs. 6 months!

Strap is not nylon......
I purchased the large for the hand grip and overall durability for my very high strung 30 lb Brittany puppy. Being at the mischievous puppy stage I wanted solid control after having several of the inferior retractables pulled from my hand. Seemed to be the perfect answer until she started biting at the tape itself. It is of poor quality and was able to be bitten through pretty much with ease. Up to that point certainly strong enough but with a slight tear in the strap it ripped apart with a good tug.

Easy to use, extremely strong, and very comfortable in your hand
The media could not be loaded. Update after 2 months use still holding a 50kg Bully Bordeaux. it really hasn't missed a beat. It held him trying to chase a deer last night and he was full chat by the time it locked and there was no issue stopped him in his tracks, don't worry he's on a harness lol. Just ordered another for our other dog now I know it's holding up. Absolutely brilliant I just wish the lead was a bit longer, other than that this is absolutely the best retractable lead I've had and the last one was almost £60 but my 3yr old Bully Bordeaux broke it within a week, I took him out yesterday and today and this lead is a god send. It can lock so that he can't move forward anymore but I can still retract it. Its extremely strong well tested already he's seen 3 cats and a dog and it held him more than easily. If you ownabig strong dog I highly recommended this if you want them to have a bit of freedom without the worries. Will be recommending this to all my my friends.

First impressions were great, but internal mechanism broke after 2 months
Updated review. Initially I was very happy with this lead as you can see below. However after 2/3 months of use we were out one day and the "brake" button just jammed and felt like it got disconnected or snapped. The lead was then stuck in this awkward position where I had no control and had to walk the dog back home a few kilometres away. The only way to safely do this was by wrapping the tape around around hands. Had high hopes for this product and loved it when when worked but the internal durability just isn't there ------------ I've a Kerry Beagle who loves to sniff around at everything when walking in new places. His leash etiquette is good so I wanted to give him something that gave him as much freedom as a long line but made it easier for me to manage (rather than manually coiling/uncoiling the line every time he moves. Having used other Kong products and knowing their durability to be good I went for this retractable lead. The dog loves it, he stays close by as if on a short leash for all traffic and walking by people/animals and once he has a bit of free space he's trained to hear "break" to give him some play time when unlocked. The lead retracts quickly so it never trails on the ground getting wet/dirty (unlike the recall line) and at the push of a button it stops immediately. It feels like a durable product with a nice soft textured rubber coating, and is easy to clean. If I were to change anything about it, I would have gone for a longer line (Kong do a 7.5 meter option). I would also like go see a keyring slot or holder for poop bags. And lastly I would probably change the clasp at the end to something like a small carabiner, although the current one seems tough its just a bit big

DANGEROUS LEAD
Now I'll admit, I have been through quite a few leads with my dog. I don't know why, because he's only 18kg so not huge, but he does run around and pull. Having said that this is THE WORST I have had and nearly ended in a tragic accident. The actual clip to attach to the harness/collar has some wiggle in the sliding bar. This meant it randomly came unclipped. The first time I thought I must not have put it on properly. The second, he wasn't even pulling, just walking along nicely and the lead fell to the floor. This was on a main road, and he ran into the road. I had to stop traffic and eventually managed to get him to follow me home (he's a rescue that has major recall issues). I've had the strap go or the mechanism on other leads, but nothing like this before. Now because I have been through so many leads I actually just replaced the clip with another in the hope that the handle part, being made by Kong, would be long lasting. But today after 8 weeks of use the mechanism has started catching. So really, nothing about this lead has been worth the money. I bought this, paying a bit more than usual, hoping it would be his 'last' extendable lead. I was right in a sense, in that from now on he's not going to have an extender, as I've lost faith that they are safe.

Designed for big hands. Update: Ratchet broke after a few weeks
Takes a big, strong, bouncy giant schnauzer very nicely. Feels very sturdy and solid. No fears of this snapping at all. However I am female, and although I would consider myself above average height and think I have fairly large hands for a woman, the lead really does feel as if it were designed for much larger hands than mine. I suppose the thought process is that large people have large dogs?! It can take quite a bit of adjusting to get my thumb in the right place for the buttons without accidentally triggering the 'hold' button. But I'm getting used to it gradually and I've only had it a couple of weeks. After a month or so of use I doubt I'll notice. Update: While my hands did get used to the size of the lead quickly, the ratchet began to fail within a few weeks of use. It started reeling in slowly and grew worse and worse (it also made many clicking noises on retracting, getting louder as it became worse) one final lunge from my dog, he hit the end of the lead and the lead would no longer retract. Ratchet was completely gone. While this isn't as bad as it would have been if the lead had snapped, the lead is still completely useless after only a few months of use. I contacted Kong about the 2 year warranty and heard nothing. Waste of money.

Pretty good going.
Recently bought this and have honestly no complaints, handle gets sweaty on a warm day but hey. Very well made and can handle my big Rottweiler boy. Gives him much more freedom and the product is strong enough so I can lead him close to me if someone is walking by. I went with Kong purely because I have bought several products for my big lad and they have always lasted even to this day which isn't bad going. To those complaining that their dog chewed it so it's "rubbish" it's a fabric material what do you expect? Simple answer, teach them not to chew or get a chain leader! No complaints so far.
