Good concept...but didn't work
We've had a koi pond for years and as our koi continue to grow ever-larger (over two feet long now), we've had to install additional mechanical and biological equipment to keep the pond clean and the fish healthy. With two pumps, two biological filters, one mechanical filter, and one ultraviolet filter, it seems like something malfunctions and has to be replaced every year or so. Sometimes it's possible to order the same model and then all we have to do is detach the broken piece of equipment and install the new working one. However, occasionally models are discontinued or sometimes we choose to not reorder a model because of early malfunction. Adding a new model of equipment can bring big headaches. Sorry, this is a long explanation to get to the point that every time we buy a new model of pump or filter, we have to figure out again how to configure the hose connections. Sometimes it's not a big deal; but our most recent purchase of a new ultraviolet filter still has us flummoxed. We have to be able to connect a 2.5-inch hose to a 1.75-inch hose. We spent an hour at Lowes with two plumbing department employees trying to find something that would work. Nope. Tried a local pool and landscaping business. Nope. Saw this adapter on Amazon and got our hopes up. Almost worked...but not quite. The design concept is wonderful in theory; but the problem is that each individual gradation of size is slightly tapered (slanted) itself...rather than remaining an exact measurement for that entire gradation. Because of this, neither of the hoses can get a good enough seal. And, since each section tapers, trying to give the hose ends a more snug fit by pulling it tight with a hose clamp doesn't work either...all because of the slanted tapering.

Adapter between 1" and 1 1/2"
It was a little difficult inserting a 3/4" end into a 1" ID hose. However, with the use of a hot air gun, it softened the hose enough that the adapter was inserted and a hose clamp could be installed with no leaks. The same procedure was used for the 1 1/2" hose attachment to the adapter.

Low cost solution
The reason I purchased this adapter was to convert from 1 inch to 1 1/2 inch tubing. The 1 inch worked ok but the 1 1/2 inch leaked even with using a hose clamp. I had to wrap some Gorrila tape around the adapter and slide the tubing over the tape. That solved the leak. In my opinion the 1 1/2 portion had too much taper to allow good contact with the inside wall of the tubing. The wall thickness is a little thinner than I expected and worried me when tightning down on the hose clamp that it might collapse under the pressure. Thankfully it didn't. That being said it was a reasonably low cost solution for my needs.

Doesn't fit 3/4" hoses either
I ordered two of these to put a UV filter into my pond fountain system. First the pros. A 1" hose fit on it quite well. The adapter seemed sturdy, and that is about it. Now the cons. Others have said that the adapter will not fit well on a 1 1/2" hose. I found out that it will not fit on a 3/4" hose. Looking at the package it lists the minimum size as 20 mm which is slightly larger than 3/4", enough to keep the hose from sliding on without being permanently stretched. The packages also appeared to have been opened despite the item being sold as new. But after my experience with them I suspect they had been returned by another customer. Overall I would recommend avoiding this product unless you have tried a few other options first and had them fail.

Perfect
Perfect!!! I lost my adapter for my pool vacuum hose and this is a great replacement. Its a secure fit to both my hose and the pool filter system and it doesn't come off of either end no matter how much you move it. Great tool!

fits perfectly, easy to install
It slides right in, but still needs a clamp to hold it in place.

It does what I need it to.
I got a vacuum for the pool, but the hose end is the same size as the filter hose, so unable to connect them. I tried several fixes that didn't work, saw this item, bought it, and it works fine.

Not very effective
I had to connect 20mm to 38mm. 38mm is the maximum size pipe this will work for. 20mm is the minimum. Both are a problem. 20mm only just fits on the end, it goes about 10 /15mm up the adapter. Fitting a jubilee seem to put uneven pressure on the joint and it leeks. I have had to bodge it and pull it to get minimum leakage. 38mm fits upto the centre line of the adapter you cut the adapter to remove the surplus stages. But again due to the taper, the hose doesn't attach evenly and leakage occurs. after an hr of adjustments and swearing I got a leakage I can accept short term and the joint is over the pond , so no overall water lose. I advise getting the fittings with parallel not tapered joints.

Perfect for the job I needed it to do...
I purchased this adaptor to connect a piece of garden hosepipe to the guttering of my greenhouse to direct the rainwater into a water butt. It does the job perfectly and, contrary to other reviews, using a junior hacksaw, it is super easy to cut to size. I thought it was quite expensive for what it is, but it does the job, so I'm happy!

Works for what I needed.
Arrived quickly. I needed this to reduce flexible pipe coming from a bilge pump to the outlet valve. It works fine but is a bit bulky. Coming down from about 25 mm to 14mm roughly. It's only a short distance and hopefully there won't be any pressure on the connections. I didn't bother with clips to secure it as the push fit seemed to work fine.

I really needed this plug to fit between my vacuum cleaner hose and my inflatable mattress.. and it did.. It was harder plastic than I expected but I did get it to do what I wanted. Because the plastic is so hard you do need to make sure that your chosen sizes are correct.

difficult to secure hoses
Because of the angle of the tapers it was difficult to tighten the Jubillee clips enough to get a water tight seal
