BiOrb Flow 30-liter
I purchased this aquarium at a discount from Warehouse Sales (used like new, damaged packaging) and I'm basing this review on that price. I'd deduct a star at the usual "new" price. I've uploaded several photos because there's so little information anywhere on what you actually get in a BiOrb kit; most photos show them outfitted with lots of expensive decorations. You get a 30 liter (7.93 gallon) black and clear tank with about four feet of airline tubing attached to the bottom of the outside of the tank. The airline tube feeds out toward the back through a notch in the base. On the inside of the tank, the airline tube attaches to an air stone. The inside of the tank base has a round plate that locks to the round, clear filter media cartridge with a twist. The cartridge is refillable and/or disposable and has another twist lock on top for the cap and uplift tube, which are not disposable. The matching black cover has two very bright white LEDs with a 4-foot cord, a switch, and a proprietary plug on the end that attaches to the included transformer. There's a small notch in the cover that could accommodate a submersible heater cord, but not much else. The included air pump has a similar cord and plug, minus the switch. A check valve is included in the airline tube. The kit comes with two bags of ceramic media that fills the bottom of the tank to a depth of 1-1/2" to 2". I was disappointed unpacking this kit. The substrate media isn't nearly as consistent in size, shape, texture, or color as the substrate shown in the advertising photos. It appears to be coarse ground scrap or by-product, nothing like the ceramic media made specifically for aquariums that you may have seen elsewhere. It has a rough, sharp texture that you wouldn't want your fish to contact, and it has none of the evenly blended appearance one expects of a material called "ceramic". Most of the pieces are an inch in diameter or larger, not suitable for use with a gravel cleaner. The filter cartridge has no fence or grate around it, so every time you change or clean it, the substrate will have to be pulled away a little. This could create a major design flaw if you don't plan your decoration scheme with this in mind. The air pump and stone provided seem to have the filter working briskly, but I have yet to add any fish. Bubbles from the filter surface directly under the light, causing a lot of shimmering that some fish won't like. Here's the bottom line. If you're looking for an aquarium as decor, this may be the tank for you. The BiOrb accessories are beautiful but can be very pricey in larger sizes and quantities. If you'd like to create a gorgeous display with one or two small fish, this would work. On the other hand, a beginning hobbyist who wants four or five fish probably won't be happy with the under-gravel filter. This filter has a better chance of working in the spherical BiOrbs where waste will fall closer to it. This tank will need regular vacuuming beyond the draw of the filter.

Great little tank!
When my two boys asked for betta fish, I started looking into desktop aquariums, since I didn't want to keep fish in tiny bowls. After a lot of debate, I decided on the Biorb Flow 15 and ordered two of them. Wow, are they pretty once they're set up and all decked out with plants and accessories! I originally thought our only option would be a cheap-looking old style aquarium, but the Flow is so cool looking, it actually adds to the decor of their rooms. But pretty is only good if it works, right? Set up was a breeze, really couldn't have been simpler. I bought Hagen 25 watt mini heaters for the tanks since the Biorb heater kit is so expensive, and they work great. Clamped the tubing with paper clips to minimize the flow of the filter (bettas don't like to be tossed around) and was pretty much ready to go. A few days later, we brought home our fish. In the first hour they were out of the bags, we had a disaster. The Biorb ceramic media is very large, and if you aren't careful to lay it properly, you can wind up with some fairly large gaps. One betta went exploring down in the media and got wedged in the corner of the tank, between the media and the glass. I got him out, but he was pretty shell-shocked. Fortunately, he recovered within a day and is doing fine. I worried about the size of the tanks, since they're on the small side, but these little guys seem very pleased with their new homes. I've added lots of plants, grass rings, Feng-shui pebbles, topiary balls, and leaf hammocks, so they have numerous hiding places and things to swim around and investigate. I think the lighting is just fine, and the opening is more than big enough to do whatever you need to do in there. The only reason I give it 4 stars instead of 5 is the price. After the initial expense (which isn't small), you pretty much have to purchase all Biorb accessories if you want them to work with the tank. And they're pricy. It took three packages of pebbles per tank to get the look I wanted, three topiary balls apiece, two grass rings, and three plants (each). At Biorb prices, that's a chunk of change. But I'm not sorry, because they look great and our new little friends seem to be thriving!

What people should know about this Aquarium
1) The lid has an LED that after some time water condenses inside the lamp. This leads to corrosion eventually and the LED will fail sometime 3years or earlier. They havent used silicon to seal it. which is surprising Since you can only buy the WHOLE lid to replace it anyway. 35EUR. Considering the cost of simply the LED chip inside (1-2EUR) the replacement of the whole lid seems totally uneconomical and environmentally wrong! There should be an option to buy just the LED chip from them since one can open the lid, rewire it and seal the lid with silicon afterwards. it is a very cheap production quality. You can do better OASE! 2) This aquarium has only 15L. Be aware that in many countires keeping fish in less than 54L is prohibited by law. Also single Betta fish should be kept in at LEAST 20-25L of water. Potential customers should be aware that this tank is barely acceptable as a tank for tiny shrimp (not the Amano!) or snails at most! 3) One should also be aware that they suggest replacing the filter cartridge every 3-4Months. which is 13EUR every 3-4 months. So that adds to the cost. which normal sized aquariums dont have as a regular cost of the filter. Now that i bought it i wouldnt recommend it to other purchasers. Primarily because in Austria it is illegal to keep fish in less than 54L of water. It is prohibited by law.

One of the best out there!
I love this aquarium. I bought 2 others that are round by the same company, so this makes a nice addition. Check their website for ideas on how to decorate, there are some images that are simply fabulous!! It's quiet, it's very stylish and it runs smooth.
