Best DIY Helper Ever
I am renovating bathroom walls that have damaged drywall paper caused by removing old wallpaper from unprimed drywall. I heard of Guardz sealer from several You Tube sites, and decided to try it. I really was a bit skepticle that the coating would seal the torn drywall paper, remnants of several coats of paint, and especially unremovable wallpaper glue. After sanding the damaged wall as smooth as I could get it, having removed any loose stuff, I rolled on a coat of Guardz. A few hours later, I added a second coat to the more severely damaged areas. Next day, I did the first skim coat and let it dry, then did a second drywall skim coat. It's now been three weeks since I finished that first wall, and it looks great. There has been no blistering or cracking of the drywall mud. I've since tackled an even more damaged wall, where both wallpaper damage, and damage from an old sink cabinet and medicine cabinet left much damage. Again, I coated the wall with 2 coats of Guardz, and skim coated it. After sanding the second skim coat, the wall looks great. Guardz really does seal discrepancies so the skim coat can make it look new again.

Good product if I could use it
This product arrived in a bloated can. I figured something had gone wrong with it, possibly in transit. I let it sit for a day before opening it to see if anything would change. When I opened the can, the product was solid and unusable. I ended up returning it. I would not recommend having this shipped to you. I couldn't find this product locally which is why I ordered it. I was able to find another Zinsser product that had a similar application and was pleased with the results.

Great sealer but liquidy
Great sealer for water based wallpaper glue left behind from the 60s! Covered and sealed well BUT beware...very liquidy and runny

Lifesaver for old wallpaper laden walls
This was a lifesaver for sealing down old wallpaper backer and glue that just wouldn’t come off.

Amazing
My husband and I bought this after seeing it on a YouTube tutorial. We took down an old 90s mirror and pulled off some paper from the wall. This hid every imperfection. I tested an area without the gardz and the plaster rippled in that section. Highly Recommend this product.

Best product to avoid peeling off wallpaper and painting it instead.
We were selling our house and the real estate agent recommended we replace the wall paper that had been there for at least 40 years. I had painters and wallpaper contractors come in and their pest advise was tear down the walls and put up new sheetrock. That was not going to work. My niece’s husband is a painter, but lives pretty far from where we live. He told us that pro painters swear by GARDZ as a primer to paint over wallpaper. Fortunately, the edges of the wallpaper were butted together so the joints were well hidden. I tried a small area low to the ground, where if it failed, I could create a piece of wood moulding to cover it. Joe recommended picking a color that matched the background of the wallpaper - just in case there was any bleed through. Important! The product is the consistency of skim milk. And as lightly as I tried, it was tough to keep it from running. Eventually I got the hang of it and decided to go for broke with one wall. Joe the pro recommended 2 coats, letting coat #1 dry for about an hour or so. We decided to go grocery shopping (if we only bought Purell that day!) which took about 2 hours including a stop for coffee. Now came the moment of truth. We picked a color blue that was mixed with Home Depot white flat base, and after taping off the white ceiling and the entrance trim, my wife and I went to work on painting the walls. The photo doesn’t really do it justice since I am taking this photo at night with lights from a fixture brightening up the room so the blue is screaming louder in the photo than it is in person. But the bottom line is GARDZ worked like a charm. The secret to using it is to just the “paint” gently, slowly and using as little bit at a time for both coats. Remember,it’s like trying to paint with skim milk. We had about 40 people come to our house. We got 2 offers, and signed a contract with a buyer that ended with them paying $500K for a home listed at $480K. Honestly I kept someone to yell out “He painted the wallpaper” but it came out so good that only the buyer heard about in full disclosure, and tried to find the signs of where it was seamed. But they were unable too. To be fair, if there was anywhere it was the least noticeable, I would take some sandpaper and joint compound, and made it perfect. So if you’re ever at a point where you’re trying to paint white over a red or black or a wallpapered room, GARDZ is a requirement. There seems to be an issue Amazon keeping it in stock AND I bought a gallon for a 15x20 room, There is enough left over that I could paint about 20 more wallpapered rooms. Fortunately I only had one. It is available outside of Amazon. The first 2 times, I was told it was on the way but running late, then there was a message they were refunding my money. So I tried again. Same thing. I tried a third place and they had quarts, which I bought and they arrived on the same day!
